Golden Oreo Trifle

I had no idea that Kara and I liked desserts with pudding in them so much until we started this blog: Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C, Exhibit D, Exhibit E, and Exhibit F.

So, today I'm adding another PUDDIN' dessert to our growing list of gems! You might remember the creamy chocolatey oreo trifle Kara posted recently. Well, my mind got to thinking about making one with golden oreos, vanilla pudding and then throwing in some strawberries since they are in abundance right now. It turned out delicious and is a great dessert to make this time of year. Enjoy!

Recipe (will easily serve 10-12):

2 5.1 oz boxes JELL-O Vanilla pudding (the larger box)
2 lb fresh strawberries, rinsed and sliced thinly
2 packages Golden Oreos
1 pint cold whipping cream
1 pint cold half & half
4 cups cold whole milk
2 tablespoons sugar, divided
1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla

After you have sliced your strawberries, place them in a bowl and stir in one tablespoon sugar. Cover and place in refrigerator while you get the other components ready. In a medium sized bowl, make your pudding. Each pack of pudding requires 3 cups of milk. So to make both, you'll need 6 cups. Pour the entire pint of cold half & half in the bowl and then add your 4 cups cold whole milk. Using a hand mixer, mix in both packages of pudding mix and beat for two minutes. Set aside. Take strawberries from fridge. Grab your trifle dish or whatever dish you intend to assemble the trifle in (I actually use a glass salad bowl for my trifles. It works great for trifles because the sides of the bowl are straight up and down, not curved). Layer strawberries at the bottom of your dish (use about a 1/4 of the strawberries). On top of the strawberries, layer a layer of golden oreos. Then on top of the oreos layer the vanilla pudding. The vanilla pudding should be about a 1/2 in thick (I usually just eyeball it). Make sure you smooth the pudding layer out to make it nice and even. Continue to layer the components in this order. You should end up with 4-5 layers (you will have left over oreos). The last layer will be a layer of whipped cream. To make it: Whip the cream and add 1 tablespoon sugar and the vanilla (The whipped cream is decidedly meant to not be overly sweet-- the vanilla pudding and the golden oreos bring a lot of sweetness to the table already). Whip until soft peaks form. Smooth all the whipped cream over the top of the trifle. You can decorate the top with more golden oreos or some strawberries if you desire. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. Dessert is best eaten the same day it's made.

Looks so delish! Too bad we don't have a Trader Joe's nearby to use Vanilla Joe Joe's!
